GTRSystems (Potomac Falls, VA) and Synchronous Technology, Inc. team to develop a system that provides browser-based internet access to plume dispersion model outputs originated in the field. Designed to support Emergency Responders at an event and provide planning and logistic information needed by Emergency Operation Centers (EOCs), Synopsis™ leverages wireless technology, on-site meteorological information and an extensive chemical database and integrates it with a high resolution Internet Map Server capability.

The Synopsis™ client installed on standard laptops or desktop computers which reside on the emergency vehicle, are linked via wireless technology to a server maintaining base geographical information for each jurisdiction serviced by the response team. Real-time data is passed from the event environment into a complex computer model and processed resulting in chemical dispersion information being sent securly to the internet map server. Via secure access, personnel both at the event and at the EOCs can look at real-time dispersin model output overlayed on road networks, hydrography, terrain, imagery or any available spatial data. The GIS can also be queried for information about specific features on the ground.

Presently, the system is being beta-tested with Haz-Mat response teams on both the east and west coasts and new development activities are being assessed for future releases of Synopsis™.
